About Jaime Isidoro
1924: Born on March 21, in Portugal.
Jaime Isidoro studied drawing and painting at Escola Soares dos Reis, Porto. In parallel with his career as a painter, he maintained a wide range of activities as a cultural animator, gallery owner and teacher, being connected to important moments of the visual arts in the city of Porto and in the country.
1945: Exhibited individually for the first time in Porto.
1954: Founder with António Sampaio of the Dominguez Alvarez Academy.
1954 -1957 : Receives the Armando Basto (1954), António Carneiro (1955), Henrique Pousão (1957) awards. He is also distinguished with the Medal of Cultural Merit from the Chamber of Cerveira (1982) and with the gold medals of the chambers of Porto, in 1988, and of Gaia, in 2002.
70's: Promoted the International Art Meetings and edited the Revista de
Artes Plásticas, which had the collaboration of leading Portuguese critics and artists, showing a particular interest in the realization of innovative cultural projects.
1978: Founder of the Cerveira Biennial. Since the urban landscape, in particular the city of Porto, was the subject of many of his works, he initially practiced a type of figuration with sensible formal simplifications, later evolving into abstraction.
2006: On the 10th of June, he is decorated as Grand Officer of the Order of Merit. He presents an anthological exhibition of his work at the Casa-Museu Teixeira Lopes, Gaia.
